One of the big weaknesses of LinkedIn Ads industry targeting feature has been its short list of ~25 industries, except perhaps in Sales Navigator, where 200 or so existed since late 2018. When we were building LinkedIn Ads campaigns, we always dreaded seeing that short list of industries for B2B targeting and being forced to find other ways to try to expand reach without getting “noisy” outcomes. In fact, the list of LinkedIn Ads targetable Industries was ridiculously short and limited our targeting a great deal when we needed to be broader than job title targeting, for example.
Well, it appears this is changing soon through the addition of 375 or so more industries, possibly when the new LinkedIn Campaign manager is released. Thanks to Brenda Meller for grabbing the list, which appears to legitimize rumors of LinkedIn’s promises for expansion are actually going to happen soon. While there are a lot of industries still not covered, we see this as a big step in the right direction – and can really help as we lose other targeting features to a cookie less future.
Side Note: We’re super hopeful that this change translates over to Microsoft Ads also – in the profile targeting feature.
